The Role

Hain Celestial are currently recruiting for a Multi Skilled Engineer (electrical bias) to work at our Histon Site. Starting salary of £14.16 + £3.38 premium, working a 4 shift rotation - week 1 Monday & Tuesday 6pm to 6am Friday & Saturday 6am to 6pm, week 2 Sunday & Monday 6am to 6pm, week 3 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 6pm to 6am, week 4 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 6pm to 6am. In Histon, we manufacture a host of ambient sweet spreads and jellies for our grocery brands. These includes Hartley's jams and jellies, Gale's honey, Rose's and Robertsons marmalade's.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Delivering proactive response to maintenance, reliability improvements and equipment breakdowns on site ensuring continuity of production as a priority
  • Delivering enhanced plant improvements through innovative ideas and modifications.
  • Carrying out maintenance activities, ensuring that the manufacturing team achieve 100% compliance to the production plan, by minimising engineering downtime. Moving the engineering maintenance strategy from a breakdown philosophy.
  • To heavily support and coach the effective development of fellow Engineers, Operators and Supervisors in their up-skilling on their lines.
  • To step change the performance and efficiency of the existing plant through continuous improvement, first time fixes and good root cause analysis.
Key Accountabilities
 

Safety, Quality, Hygiene

Develop effective relationships with contractors, engineers and operational peers alike to deliver a strong safety culture.
 
Ensure compliance to current Health and Safety Legislation whilst providing a professional and proactive approach to health and safety.
 
 Deal with all health and safety issues professionally.
 
Ensure good working knowledge of Hain Daniels safety procedures and adherence to them including LOTO, RA, Work Permits, while also driving forward any health and safety initiatives.
 
Maintain a safe working environment and build a positive and successful Safety culture.
 
Ensure safe practices are followed by OEMs and contractors visiting the site.
 
Ensure the plant is safe and effective for the job required by implementing effective action plans and encouraging improvement to overcome any health and safety issues.
 
Ensure the Company hygiene rules are adhered to.
 
Ensure clean as you go is strictly followed incorporating the Equipment Handover procedure.

People Management

Ensure your needs are considered and where possible fulfilled with regards to up-skilling, fault analysis, man management, personal development etc.
 
Monitor internal and external customer satisfaction and continually seek ways of improving the service for which the post is responsible.
 
Manage your area of responsibility, liaising with your colleagues and contractors appropriately.
 
Maintain and develop a positive workplace free from bullying and harassment.
 
Maintain good levels of attendance in line with the company standard
 
Maintain confidentiality of Hain Daniels procedures and practices.
 
Develop and deliver a culture of the right Hain Daniels behaviours around accountability, commitment and engagement.
 
Ensure a good level of customer service is received from the OEM’s and contractors to site
 
Oversee control of contractors attending site as necessary
 
Ensure training is maintained and improved sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues

Operations Management

The role will ensure that effective maintenance and necessary repairs will be progressive and be successful in assisting the site achieve its targets ensuring the plant is able to give the best possible product quality and efficiency results through reliability and repeatability.

Work closely with the Engineering Management Team to agree and implement continuous improvement initiatives, advising and supporting, as required, with site engineering needs.

 Self managed, directing and prioritising your own approach and managing your effectiveness against set and measurable objectives and KPI’s, demonstrating a proactive approach to improvement.

 Prioritise actions to deliver immediate and long term solutions to enable production output of quality products to be achieved feeding back and updating operations accordingly.
 
Support the integration of the engineering function into the operations function, ensuring that the overall technical and operational expertise of the factory is elevated. Through this initiative, develop heightened levels of plant ownership, increasing plant/machinery utilisation and performance.
 
Ensure the site processes for ordering / using spares and general record keeping are adhered to.
 
Maintain co-operative working with other departments to ensure continuous improvement.

Continuous Improvement

Prioritise actions to ensure effective plant performance is delivered to business priorities.
 
Consistently seek opportunities to improve profitability and develop plans to support this.
 
Apply automation ideas to remove non-value added activity.
 
Ensure wastage is kept to a minimum, whether that is product or other items used in the manufacture of that product.
 
Coordinating with colleagues, deliver an improvement in MTBF through effective maintenance, delivering timely efficiency improvements.

Communication

Act as a source of best practice for plant and processes communicating these to colleague both in operations and engineering alike.
Meet with peers on a regular basis to aid collaborative working to standard objectives.
Generate greater effectiveness of moving to predictive maintenance by liaising with maintenance planning team focussing on business critical assets and relevant critical plant, updating PM’s as necessary.
Update the CMMS accordingly, capturing actions taken on plant and equipment.
Liaise closely with colleagues within and across function regarding improvement.

 
Experience / Skills
 
Formal Engineering qualification – OND Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Time served indentured apprenticeship.
Minimum work base Level 3 (NVQ or equivalent).
Formal qualification in Health and Safety.
Awareness of engineering best practices and improvement processes.
5 Years plus experience in the FMCG industry in a similar role.
A good knowledge of Industrial Steam Boilers, associated water testing and safety checks.
Knowledge of Effluent Treatment plants.
Advanced skills in PLC, HMI Scada controlled systems.
Strong electrical fault finding.
Ability to influence and collaborate at all levels in order to achieve improvement targets.
Skilled analytical thinker with the ability to critically assess requirements and select “best fit” approach to meeting improvement objectives.
A positive attitude, open to change with a proactive approach and a passionate attitude to business success.
Analytical thinker.
A positive and flexible approach to on going training.
An excellent time manager with an adaptable and flexible approach, being very responsive when operating at all levels within the organisation.
Treats the administrative duties as important as the hands on duties.
