Engineering Stores Technician (Part-Time - 26 Hours per Week)

Location: Histon, Cambridgeshire

We are looking for a proactive Engineering Stores Technician to support the efficient operation of our engineering stores. This role is key to ensuring the availability of engineering parts, maintaining accurate inventory records, and supporting the engineering and manufacturing teams with timely procurement and stock control.

This is a part-time role working 26 hours per week based at our Histon site.

About the Role

As an Engineering Stores Technician, you will play an important role in supporting maintenance and engineering operations by ensuring the right parts are available at the right time. You will manage stock control, purchasing processes, and supplier relationships while maintaining compliance with company procedures and audit requirements.

You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve supplier performance.

Key Responsibilities

Stores & Inventory Management

  • Manage requisitions, work orders, purchase orders and related documentation through M3 and CMMS systems (Pirana)
  • Maintain accurate stock records, including minimum re-order levels, stock searches and perpetual stock counts
  • Ensure critical spare parts are available to support maintenance activities
  • Carry out stock checks in line with site and SOX requirements
  • Review stock for obsolescence and maintain appropriate stock levels
  • Ensure all parts delivered to stores are accurate and match purchase orders

Purchasing & Supplier Management

  • Support the purchasing process including price negotiation, order placement and supplier performance monitoring
  • Work with suppliers to improve lead times, service levels and cost efficiencies
  • Source new or alternative parts when required
  • Ensure pricing and lead time information is correctly updated within the CMMS system
  • Investigate and resolve invoice queries where purchase order tolerances are exceeded

Operational Support

  • Run daily order reports and ensure timely receipt of parts
  • Maintain documentation required for internal and external audits
  • Track repair items and warranties through the stores database
  • Support engineering teams by expediting urgent parts and repairs when required

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain a safe and organised engineering stores environment
  • Follow company health, safety, hygiene and environmental policies
  • Ensure documentation is completed accurately and on time
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards within the stores area

Continuous Improvement & Communication

  • Identify opportunities to improve stores processes and inventory management
  • Support initiatives to reduce working capital and optimise stock levels
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing and Finance teams to resolve issues quickly
  • Maintain clear communication regarding supplier deliveries and outstanding orders

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Essential:

  • Good standard of general education
  • Strong organisational, numerical and IT skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a stores or stock control role, ideally within manufacturing or engineering
  • Knowledge of engineering parts or maintenance operations
  • Experience working within an FMCG environment
  • Experience using CMMS systems (Pirana preferred)
  • FLT licence (training can be provided if required)
